PigPlan Bureau Service - Frequently Asked Questions

Q : How do I collect the information needed for Pigplan Bureau Recording?
A :

Three large barn cards collect daily information on feed used, breeding herd purchases, sales, births, deaths & weaning and the same for the rearing/feeding herd.
A service book is also provided to recorded services and farrowings as they happen and smaller card on which you can record the dead weight sales.

Q : How do I get all this information to the computer?
A :

At the end of every month you tot up the cards to give you a monthly total for each event and then transfer these totals to two forms that are sent to the Pigplan bureau.

Q : Do I have to use the on-farm recording stationery?
A :
No. If you have on-farm systems already in place for recording throughout the month, then just transfer from your own records to the two Pigplan forms. The forms are provided in pads with instructions for completion inside each front cover.
Q : What reports can I expect from Pigplan?
A :

There are 3 performance reports for breeder/feeder units:

  • a breeding herd report (taking piglets to weaning)
  • an optional rearing herd report (taking pigs from weaning to around 35kg)
  • a feeding herd report (measuring performance to point of sale).

There are 2 financial reports:

  • a monthly cashflow
  • a 6-monthly financial report producing a gross and net margin with cost of production per kg deadweight.
Q : How much does Pigplan cost?
A :

Recording fees are based on herd size and currently range from £100/year for herds of 100 sows or less, to a maximum of £400 per year for herds of 370 sows and above.

Q : Why should I consider Pigplan recording when I have an on-farm program?
A :

If you want more information on the financial aspects of your pig business then the Pigplan Bureau has the facility to provide detailed information alongside  comparative data from other Pigplan-recorded farms, right down to the cost per kg of pig meat produced.
Similarly you get a comparative sample on every physical performance report sent back to you so that you can see at a glance where your strengths and weaknesses lie.

Q : Can Pigplan provide me with action lists for weekly management of my herd?
A :

No. Pigplan is a “Whole Herd” recording scheme and you need to look at a farm-based program to provide that source of information.

Why not book a demonstration of Agrosoft’s Winpig program and see example Pigplan reports as well? If you sign up for both you get discounts from both systems.
